The incident which happened on Thursday morning was said to have been caused by the fuel dome of the bank.
The CBN office is located near the Benue state government house in Makurdi.
According to an eyewitness, the Federal Fire Services in the state arrived the scene of the incident in less than an hour.
He said: ““It was around 7:00 am this morning that we noticed the fire at the premises of the bank, around 8:00am the Fire Service arrived to put it off.”
While confirming the incident, Director of Benue State Fire Service, Donald Ikyaaza said his men have been able to overpower the fire, adding that everywhere is calm now.
Ikyaaza said: “It was actually a huge fire which started at the company’s fuel dome but my men rushed to the scene and put out the fire before it could spread to other parts of the bank. Everywhere is calm now.”
In a statement issued by Osita Nwanisobi, spokesperson of the CBN, the apex bank said the incident was minor with no damage to the branch.
“A minor fire occurred at our Makurdi Branch at about 7.00 a.m. today, Thursday, April 21, 2022, and was swiftly checked moments after it was detected,” the statement reads.
“The prompt response of the Bank’s security and facility management units as well as support from the Benue State Fire Service helped fight the fire and prevented any damage the fire might have caused to the main office building.
“Reports indicate that the fire started from the fuel dump behind the branch building sending smoke into the atmosphere.
“Fortunately, there were no fatalities, and the affected site has since been cordoned off for further investigation.“Normal work has also continued at the branch.” He said.
